Subject: 30 year anniversary event
To celebrate 30 years of volunteers working for the benefit of our local National Parks and Reserves, the Canunda & Beachport Friends of Parks group held a special day out last month ( Sept 6th)
Past and present members plus families gathered, along with staff (past and present) from the Department of Environment Water and Natural Resources (DEWNR) for a 4WD trip through the length of the Canunda National Park with a BBQ lunch at the Number 2 rocks. After travelling on to Cape Banks the convoy returned to Millicent for afternoon tea and to look at a display of historical memorabilia in the Civic & Arts Centre Gallery. This was prepared for the group by current Works coordinator Peter Haggett and a team of helpers.
The inaugural meeting to set up the Group was held in the South End Community Centre on 13th May 1987. The chairman was Mr B. McDonald, and the elected officials were - President Archie McArthur, Secretary Tom Prowse, Publicity officer Heather Carthew with Mr B. McDonald as Patron. The meeting was actually attended by 57 interested people.
