The Friends of The Innamincka Reserves commenced in 1999 with a small band of people who were passionate about the region. Our Membership continues to grow with Members coming from NSW, Victoria, Tasmania and South Australia. The majority of Members are based in South Australia, so our meetings are held in Adelaide.
We hold quarterly meetings and keep in close contact with all Members via email.
Because of distance we have one working bee per year, usually from late July to mid August. Our interests in Innamincka are broad, ranging from environmental/conservation, to historical and community projects.
The FOIR undertake maintenance tasks such as fencing and sign writing
We assist in the maintenance of the Australian Inland Mission and have donated furniture for use by tourists.
We undertake annual Bird Surveys with comprehensive bird reports being made to DEWNR and BirdLife Australia.
Cleaning up the Town Dump is a task that the local folk appreciate, as is the annual Race-course clean up. Our working bee has coincided with the Innamincka Races, an event enjoyed by all.
The Innamincka Cemetery is one of our pet projects with maintaining the cemetery, graves and historical research currently being carried out into this iconic part of South Australia.
Innamincka steals a little more of our hearts each time we go there.
